The paper addresses the issue of digital endowments in Italian households. By comparing data from several of our survey campaigns, both qualitative and quantitative, with those of other sources and above all with the database of the Central Institute of Statistics, we show that a non-negligible percentage of families lacks adequate digital endowments to cope with a possible new period of confinement and distance education, and this condition could induce new forms of educational poverty. These evidences will have to be taken into account by policymakers and educators so that it will be possible to cope with a possible new period of confinement by taking timely measures to close dangerous digital gaps.
