Abstract

The essay presents the developments of research on the well-being of secondary school students. Analyses confirm the factorial structure of the construct, with a Well-Being factor, including six scales, and two anxiety factors, General Anxiety and Test Anxiety. In addition analyses of variance highlight significant differences with respect to kind of school, self-perceived performance, gender, and feeling part of a minority. It emerges that students with a migrant background and those who believe they have a low performance live the school experience with discomfort, with particular reference to dimensions such as sense of protection, consideration, test anxiety and class cohesion. Along with the questionnaire the WHO-5 scale was administered. It correlates positively with the Wellbeing scale and negatively with the two Anxiety scales and about 61% of the students score below 13 on this scale, which suggests the need for further investigation.
