The paper proposes a reflection on the intrapsychic and intrafamilial dynamics that contribute to the development of adult affective relationships characterized by violence and dependence. The reading of these phenomena takes place in the light of the foundations of psychoanalysis and in particular the pillars of psychoevolutionary theory: through these theoretical elements, it arrives at the clinic, analyzing the personality factors that will potentially be-come predisposing factors of violent relationships. Thus, psychoanalytic thinking is proposed as a tool for self-awareness and knowledge of elements of personal history that have fostered the structuring of an insufficiently integrated and cohesive idea of self, capable of distinguishing between being loved as a separate, valued and supported subject and being loved as an object with indistinguishable boundaries and therefore potentially defectual.
