Abstract

The school educational assistant is a professional who intervenes in the learning and socialization processes of pupils with disabilities to enhance their skills in areas such as autonomy and the management of cognitive and relational aspects. Rooted in the Italian policy of “integrazione scolastica”, the educational assistance service has clear purposes and solid regulatory foundations. However, being a service managed and financed by local authorities, it is not carried out in the same way on the national territory. Inevitably, the different organizational choices are reflected in the contexts and educational relations. To stimulate discussion on the subject, a comparison between organizational models of educational assistance is proposed from a perspective that observes their implications in terms of inclusion.
