Abstract

Abstract After centuries under the illusion that fraternity might have been the bond of a more equitable society, facing the decline of the nation state, the return of arrogant globalisms, the need for a new cosmopolitanism and the impoverishment of schooling and education, despoiled of their metaphysical content, this principle returns to the cultural debate with the force of inactuality, that is the place of possibility, of moving against time and upstream, interrupting the linearity of an anti-communitarian education by recognising ourselves in the “philìa”. The school marked by “philìa” wants to overcome the boundaries of a closed citizenship, in order to look forward to a society based on respect for others, equality and a “conviviality of differences” as prerequisites for a democratic education.
