Abstract

The paper begins with an analysis of experimental projects for mathematics (PNI and the “Brocca” Project) which were introduced into the Italian senior secondary schools at the end of the 1980s. This is followed by some considerations on teaching related to the National Recommendations for Grammar Schools and Guidelines for Technical High Schools and Vocational Schools regarding the teaching of mathematics which came into effect with the reorganisation of senior secondary schools starting from the scholastic year of 2010-2011. This brief overview examines the link between these recent recommendations with the proposal for a new curriculum, to the teaching of “mathematics for the citizen”, drafted by the UMI in the years 2000-2004.
