Abstract – Chronic diseases are on the rise, in the world as in Italy. For a boy or girl, suffering from a chronic disease means being in a physical, emotional, mental condition that prevents from attending school regularly, carrying out school work, activities typical of their age and that requires intervention and treatment by doctors and healthcare professionals, taking medications, using special equipment. This article presents the results of a qualitative research involving 28 people with Thalassemia. Their life stories are an opportunity to emphasize the need to welcome and respond to the educational needs of those who live in conditions of vulnerability so serious as to risk exclusion and social marginalization.
