Abstract

ICT-supported methodologies are a motivating option for pupils with autism, which leads to the need for digital teacher training. The “Questionario sulla formazione e sulle competenze legate all'uso delle tic degli insegnanti che operano con alunni disabili” was administered to 56 generalist teachers in Florence with experience with students with autism. The aim was to investigate the training they had on ICT for students with autism, as well as the type of ICT used and the purpose and frequency of its use. Descriptive and inferential non-parametric analyses were carried out (Mann-Whitney U test) and the effect size was calculated (Cohen's d). Teachers reported low levels of training and low use of ICT, focusing their use on cognitive development, autonomy and communication and, to a lesser extent, on emotional development and language. Significant differences were found related to the age of the teacher and the educational stage.
