Abstract

In 1933, Benito Mussolini expressed the need for each Italian town to have its own radio; each Italian school had to have its own “listening point”. Since 1934, “Ente radio rurale” started its broadcasts for the school, based on fascist culture and propaganda. The radio has played an important cultural role in the context of social history of education and not only in the fascist period. During 70’s, "free radios" were born from the experiences of the student mobilizations. "Free radios" were a symbol of liberty for younger generations. In the last decade, web-radios have also been born within the school context. The recent health emergency situation has seen the construction of web-radio within some secondary schools, in support of Distance Learning.
