Linguistica romanza e intercomprensione: una risorsa didattica per il multilinguismo e il plurilinguismo in Europa

Abstract

For decades, European policy has valorized principles of multilingualism and plurilingualism. In practice, however, policies tend to focus on valuing languages that are helpful for economic competitiveness and for attracting foreign students. Instead, a language policy that considers the academic training reality of learning a language and not simply the professional outcomes for the student – in view of the concrete multicultural academic reality in which a student will then act as a professor – should invest in a more holistic approach. Such an approach should take into accounts the socio-cultural norms necessary to understand the hybrid nature of European languages from their inception and identify the multicultural evolution that led to their current configuration. Romance Linguisitics and Intercomprehension address this need. Together the two discipline can constitute a helpful resource for pedagogical approaches at the universitiy, which would allow students to study the history of romance languages through romance languages
