Abstract

Attic comedian from the 4th cent. BC., Ophelion is unfairly classified as ‘minor poet’ of Middle Comedy. There are six fragments extant which are interesting for some aspects concerning trade, religion (cult of Isis in Athens), and Plato’s parody. Some titles suggest a burlesque of myth, a trend that has often been seen to link Old and Middle Comedy.
