Abstract

The article develops a reflection around the real-time screen image, which for Manovich we continue to call that only out of habit. Building on this assumption, I argue that this apparatus transcends the condition of the "window metaphor", traditionally related to the image, to function as a “window device”. This implies a rediscussion of the status of iconic fiction conferred by the screen on the image, functioning the real-time image exceptionally as a sign for its subject. This medial configuration offers peculiar possibilities to the aspiration to cross the image threshold: in line with the thinking of Benjamin and McLuhan, for whom technology modifies our sensorium by innervating itself in it, in the case of vision by operating in the sense of its tactilization, I show how the real-time screen image becomes the site of a surface intercorporeality, permeable to the intentionalities it harbors.
