Abstract

Even if the critics usually emphasize Wong's visual skills, his ability to catch the public in an elegant and refined universe, we must say that also music plays a leading role in these films. The importance of music in the author's cinema, as the literary influences, hasn't been completely investigated. In every opera Wong tries to realize a soundtrack able, on one side, to recreate the atmosphere of the period, and, on the other side, to evoke the melodramatic tune of the sad love stories he tells. In this way Wong Kar-wai creates not only great visual paintings, but also great musical mosaics.
