Abstract

Back to the roots of Western European Culture. Based on a contextual and multilinear perspective, the investigation of the History of Pompey's urban scenery is conducted through the analysis of buildings devoted to spectacles: from the Great Theatre, steeped in Hellenistic Culture, to the theatrum tectum, likely to be a place of encounter for Silla's settlers and a 'sign' of distinction. From the amphitheatre, example of a sumptuos private evergetism in the colonial era, to the magnificent renovation of the Great Theatre by the Holconii under Augustus, imbued with the imperial aura conveyed by the silent eloquence of the images.
