Abstract
Depictions of Justice in ancient Rome are scarce and uncertain in characterization of the attributes, suffering competition from Nemesis and Equity particularly in monetary issues. The paper places this fact in relation to the lesser usefulness of this virtue of imperial power in the creation and management of consensus. Equity appears much more promising from the perspective of encouraging and consolidating political support.
