Abstract

This paper analyzes a liturgical-musical manuscript preserved in the Diocesan Historical Archive of Ferrara, produced by the College of Chaplains in the mid-14th century. The study investigates various aspects, including the religious role of the chaplains, their interactions with other ecclesiastical institutions, and their contributions to liturgical practices and manuscript production. Through an interdisciplinary approach that integrates codicology, paleography, ecclesiastical history, linguistics and musicology, this analysis reveals how the chaplains’ manuscripts reflect their religious and cultural influence, emphasizing their crucial role in the spiritual and cultural life of medieval Ferrara.
