Abstract

The dissertation begins with a specific declination of Land Art, quintessentially English, mostly linked to the experience of journey, overcoming simple plastic representation to be pure action, putting the man and his physicality in the foreground as the “measurement instrument” of the Earth.

Fifties landscape culture as modern minimalist Wanderung is very strong and some ideas on how to use maps and cartography in an artistic sense begin to be understood as well as language translations. After analysing some works more closely linked to the geographical representation, we’ll notice how the experiential aspects of walking and cartography have in recent years found a creative meeting point through new digital technologies, in an area called Locative Art.
