Abstract

By the records for payments and salary lists of the Este court in Ferrara, the present paper reconstructs some possible bonds between sacred performances in the Ferrarese Quattrocento and contemporary stagecraft in Florence. The paper analyzes some religious festivities celebrated in Ferrara in the Fifties of the 15th century, showing a deep network of relationships among artists and craftsmen that creates the material culture of herculean theatre.
